Howard Fancy
Howard began as Motu’s Director in June 2009. He has an extensive background in leadership and public policy including senior roles in the New Zealand Treasury, Chief Executive Officer for the then Ministry of Commerce, Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Education, and Acting Chief Executive for the Ministry for the Environment.
As well as being Motu’s Director, Howard currently undertakes a number of governance roles in the public and private sectors including being a director of Cognition Education Limited, Arts Access Aotearoa, and an external member of the the Department of Corrections, Department of Labour and State Services Commissions’ Risk and Audit Committees. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the National Centre of Adult Literacy and Numeracy and a member of the Education Committee of the Royal Society. He recently chaired the governance group overseeing the establishment of the new Ministry of Science and Innovation.
