James Sanchirico

James is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of California at Davis and a University Fellow at Resources for the Future (RFF).
Before joining the UC Davis Faculty in 2007, James was a Senior Fellow at Resources for the Future. His research focuses on economic analysis of fishery policy design, implementation, and performance with a particular interest in analysing the ecosystem impacts of policies such as landing taxes, individual transferable quotas, limited entry, and marine protected areas. His other research interests include issues related to bioeconomic modelling, invasive species management, environmental policy, and land-use and biodiversity conservation. His methodological approaches include econometric analysis, spatial and intertemporal modelling, and simulation analysis. He is currently a member of the Science Advisory Board for the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration in the Department of Commerce and is on the editorial councils for the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management and the Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics. He has served on a U.S. National Academy of Science panel and is a past associate editor of Marine Resource Economics. James received a PhD in Agriculture and Resource Economics from the University of California at Davis in 1998.
