Linda Tuhiwai Smith

Linda is the Pro Vice-Chancellor Maori at the University of Waikato. Before this, she taught at University of Auckland. She is from Ngati Awa and Ngati Porou iwi. Her professional background is in Maori and indigenous education. She was a teacher in primary and secondary schools between 1974 and 1985. She has also spent some time as a school counsellor and began her career as a researcher in the field of asthma research. Her research interests include young people and their participation in society and the economy, Maori social justice issues, Maori education policy and practice, and oral histories. She has a deep interest in indigenous methodologies and ways of knowing.
