He was a visiting professor at the Chair for Statistics and Empirical Economic Research, University of Zurich for the 2008 - 2009 academic year and greatly appreciated their amazing hospitality..

Steve’s research focuses on empirical labour economics, specialising in the behaviour of individuals and households. In recent research, he has examined the impact of immigration on the geographic mobility and labour market outcomes of New Zealanders, the impact of migration to New Zealand on the income and health of Pacific Islanders, retirement behaviour among older Australians, and the effect of economic shocks in Russia on nutrition and overall living standards. Steve is broadly interested in research on migration, health, nutrition, education, household decision-making and inequality.

In his free time, he enjoys tramping, surfing, and skiing, watching television, reading, and discussing practically anything with his partner, Natasha. More than anything, he loves to travel and hopes to see as much of world as possible.
