Did New Labour ‘save’ the English National Health Service: a ten-year retrospective, 1997-2007
Abstract
This presentation discusses the situation of the National Health Service in England when Tony Blair was elected Prime Minister in 1997, outlines the main phases and elements in New Labour’s NHS reforms and assesses their impact. The presentation ends with reflections on whether a period of significant change in the NHS has secured the future of the Service and highlights some implications for NZ.
