Rental Markets
Motu’s Rental Markets research compares rents and house prices in different regions. Our research has also examined the cost of extra bedrooms in rental properties.
Project Summary

Working Paper 05-02 examines how rental costs vary between regions for households who require more space. It finds that the cost of extra bedrooms in rental properties varies considerably around the country.
Working paper 07-01 models the supply and demand of housing, comparing the incentive to either rent or purchase housing, and analysing and evaluating the impact of a range of policy options for New Zealand.
Working Paper 09-08 models supply and demand of housing in New Zealand comparing the incentive to either rent or purchase housing, examining impacts of a range of policy options for New Zealand.
