Climate Change

Motu is currently involved in several projects exploring the impacts of climate change policy on the environment and economy. Some of these projects focus on climate change issues in New Zealand, and some consider the effects of international climate change policy.

Research into the environmental economics of climate change is funded by two major grants:

Integrated Economics of Climate Change, funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (formerly FRST).

Coordination and Cooperation for Effective Climate Policy Design and Implementation, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Research Areas

Tropical Deforestation

Tropical Deforestation Motu’s current work on tropical deforestation focuses on the design of international policy for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD).  This builds on earlier work on deforestation,  carbon sequestration, carbon reference levels, and deforestation policy in Costa Rica.

Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Emissions
