A Case Study for Devolution: The problem of preserving kiwi habitat in the Far North

This report was written for NZ Treasury.

Kiwis are rare and unique to New Zealand: our national symbol, our nickname. Yet some species are endangered. How can we most effectively protect this critical part of our heritage and identity and do our part to preserve biodiversity? Is the current Resource Management Act the best structure for formulating social objectives about kiwi
protection and providing appropriate habitat?

This article is based on the report Devolution and the New Zealand Resource Management Act, by Suzi Kerr (University of Maryland), Megan Claridge, and Dominic Milicich, prepared for Policy Coordination and Development, New Zealand Treasury. It does not represent the views of the NZ Treasury.
